Senior Machine Learning Researcher

We are looking for an experienced machine learning engineer to join the ALDO team.

At ALDO, we ensure that our users can access the different services and travel legitimately within the many public transport communities covered by FAIRTIQ, while keeping an eye on malicious users. The best part of the challenge? We do it at scale: Our increasing base of 700K active users, and the 130M+ journeys (https://nicht.fairtiq.com/) already made with FAIRTIQ imply that our system must be built with scalability and reliability at its core.

As a Senior ML Researcher in ALDO, you will mostly focus on the fraud detection and prevention topic. This implies improving current detection models and algorithms, investigating new scenarios of fraud and ways to prevent them. Be it through heuristic and algorithms, standard machine learning models or cutting edge neural nets, the most adequate tool for the task will be selected. Like every engineer at FAIRTIQ you will work on features “end-to-end”: from their definitions, to their research, implementation and making them production-ready before releasing them.

As part of the ALDO squad, you will also have the opportunity to participate in the other topics owned by the squad (e.g. fraudster management, travel authorisation serving, etc), widening your T-shaping.

Our Technology Profile

• Research Stack: Tensorflow, Sagemaker, PySpark, Numpy, Jupyter Notebooks;
• Programming languages: Python, Java;
• Architecture principles: Microservices, Continuous delivery, Zero downtime;

Role Responsibilities

• Conduct applied research to improve our fraud detection and prevention system;
• Contribute to the production implementation by writing clean, testable and scalable code;
• Continuously improve existing code;
• Build and maintain Machine Learning pipelines for large scale applications in production;
• Oversee data collection, labelling and evaluation tasks;
• Stay up to date with the relevant research & technologies in the field;
• Monitor production systems;

Who we are looking for

• MSc or PhD in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics;
• At least 5 years of experience in Machine Learning Research and Development ;
• Very strong coding skills in Python, Java is a plus;
• Deeply familiar with a machine learning framework (Tensorflow, PySpark);
• Strong knowledge of Algorithms and Data Structures;
• Analytical mindset;
• Experience in deploying and operating machine learning pipelines in production strongly appreciated;
• Excellent English writing and verbal language skills;
• Europe based candidates;

Recruitment process:

• Screening interview with Pedro (from the People Team): ~30 minutes;
• Tech Screening + ML Coding interview: 90 minutes;
• Applied Research interview: 60 minutes;
• System Design interview: 60 minutes.
